Where does PayPal go from here?

I think PayPal will muddle along. Braintree and Venmo seem to be doing well and there are some great assets like Hyperwallet and Honey that are being poorly integrated, imo. I tweeted the following recently [1]

1. Squash PayPal/Venmo together under the Venmo brand as a P2P/wallet/quasi-bank like Cash App.

2. All PayPal merchant acceptance goes under Braintree brand, competes with Adyen/Stripe

3. Keep the branded checkout, using Venmo to jumpstart a shop pay network

4. Then I’d put Alyssa Henry in charge of the whole thing as Dan Schulman's replacement

Hi, didn't quite get how square is using unreferenced refunds for processing paymemts. I understand what are unreferenced refunds --> Unreferenced refunds let you return any amount to any card presented to the payment terminal. In referenced refunds, refund is made to original card.

But how is it playing out in case of cash app?

Hey Jaskirat, just seeing this comment now that I'm writing more frequently. Great question...

What I was trying to convey was that to begin, Cash App didn't require users to store value in a Cash App account. Instead, they allowed users to receive funds into their primary bank account. The way they got the money there was using unreferenced refunds (which has now been formalized as Visa Direct and Mastercard Send). Make sense?
